Women in leadership and gender liberation

16 May 2016

Avril Henry

Avril Henry (above) is no stranger to Ruby. A long-time collaborator and past Westpac employee, Avril was one of our Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence in 2015. Avril has a new book out Leadership Revelations III, How We Achieve the Gender Tipping Point, which uncovers the experiences of women when it comes to their gender. It’s an experience rarely, if ever, experienced by men.

This is not a book about fixing women – women don’t need fixing – but about our systems and our attitudes. It’s a book about liberation.

Avril has also been running her GLAM program for a number of years now. Great Leaders Are Made (GLAM) is on in Sydney and Canberra until November.

The aim of this development program is to empower participants, and further develop their management and leadership skills in preparation for more senior roles in organisations.

The program is run over three months, meeting once per month for a full day. Each session has a theme, with interactive exercises during the session, encouraging attendees to participate actively. On average, there are 30 attendees in each program, to maximise opportunities for interaction and group learning.
