Saying “Yes” Along the Path to Higher Self-Esteem – Week 6

I totally understand that your initial reaction to this week’s heading may be “Ok now I’m confused, last week she wrote Just say No and now she is telling us To say Yes.”

And you are right. Though the good news is, there’s a simple trick to knowing the right time to say either YES or NO: Start listening to your body.

That is right; your body will give you the answer.

I realise that you may not be in the habit of listening to your body for the answers so here is a simple rule you may like to adopt so your path to higher self-esteem is easier.

If the request is legal and you feel angst about doing it, just simply say YES!!

That is right; the angst comes as the request stretches you outside of your comfort zone.

Stretching Yourself by Saying ‘Yes’

A sure fire way to raising your self esteem is to live each day as Eleanor Roosevelt suggested –“Do one thing every day that scares you.”

Let’s face it life can become really boring when we stay in the same routine year after year, doing the same things, thinking the same thoughts, eating the same foods, doing the same job and engaging in the same hobbies.

We are here to live a fulfilled and prosperous life, stretching ourselves so we can grow and live the life of our desires.

A few years ago I came across this poem (Author Unknown) that very eloquently brings home this week’s point about why you should be saying “YES!” more often.

I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I wouldn’t fail.

The same four walls and busywork were really more like jail.

I longed so much to do the things I’d never done before,

But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn’t matter that I wasn’t doing much.

I said I didn’t care for things like commission checks and such.

I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,

But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn’t let my life go by just watching others win.

I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.

I took a step and with new strength I’d never felt before,

I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you’re in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,

Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.

A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.

Reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!
