Building High Self- Esteem - Week 2

09 July 2015

Psychologist Abraham Maslow's “hierarchy of needs” depicts self-esteem as one of the basic human motivations. Maslow suggests that people need both esteem from other people as well as inner self-respect. Both of these needs must be fulfilled in order for an individual to grow as a person and achieve self-actualisation.

Positive (high) self-esteem gives us the strength and flexibility to take charge of our lives and grow from our mistakes without the fear of rejection.

Women with high self-esteem will show up in their complete wholeness. It’s doesn’t necessarily mean they have it all together. They’re not perfect. They allow themselves to know they’re a whole human being with all their imperfections, knowing they still have much to learn, let go of and evolve into.

They are women who allow themselves to shine their light and show up in their full magnificence. Even though they don’t know what it looks like, they know how it feels. Their ethos is: “I am not sure what I will be doing, though I want to show up.

Adding to our Awareness and Creating Daily Rituals

When you like yourself more, when your opinion of yourself goes up then you’ll stop trying so eagerly to get validation and attention from other people.

With this new awareness:

·        you’ll become less needy,

·        your inner life is much less of an emotional rollercoaster

·        you’ll find the courage to live your life according to your ‘burning inner desires” – Yeah!!!

·        You’ll also start to live your life with an ethos of “It is none of my business what other people think of me.”  - Totally liberating and fulfilling.

#2 Daily Gratitude

Most people concentrate on the negative things in their lives or all the things they wish they had, as opposed to realising and appreciating how many blessings they actually have in their lives.

To fully understand this “topsy turvey” way of thinking, let’s look at the 7th of the 12 universal laws*, the Law of Attraction.

The Law of Attraction demonstrates:

how we create the things, events and people that come into our lives our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions produce energies which, in turn attract like energies. Negative energies attract negative energies and positive energies attract positive energies.

With this in mind, our ritual for this week is creating a daily gratitude journal.

For this exercise, it’s really important that you spend the time to purchase a beautiful hard-covered journal. This is something special for you; spend more than you normally would. Even purchase a special pen, test a few to make sure you find the one that creates a special feeling when you write with it.

The daily ritual:

·        Each day write down five things that you are grateful for in your life. Make sure that you try to have at least three different things each day, so you have to think and feel about it.

·        Try to evoke all your senses in your words: hear, see, smell and touch things, taste things, feel things. For example, you may choose to write something like: “I am so grateful that I live by the beach as I get to walk there every morning. I love to listen to the sound of the surf, feel the light breeze as I look at the sun, the clouds and the sky. I feel so alive just by experiencing the beach each day.

Recap

Last time we spoke about checking in and catching the way you speak with yourself. This week we have added the daily ritual of writing in a gratitude journal. Take the time today to purchase the hard cover journal and pen, and then tomorrow start the ritual.

Please share all the “blessings and abundance” that have flown into your life since implementing the first two“self esteem” daily rituals.

I look forward to sharing & building our daily rituals over the coming weeks as Self - esteem is the first step to Becoming your own best friend.

Until next time…….
