At the Bid for Equality Equal Pay Day Handbag Auction, which was this year's theme for the YWCA Adelaide annual fundraiser, the auction raised more than $7000.
It is the first time YWCA Adelaide has done a fundraiser and gala party on this scale and its success is something it will be building on, Communications and Engagment Manager Chelsea Lewis told Ruby, recently.
The top five auction items were:

"Handbags, the place where women hold their money, symbolised for us the gender pay gap, which is why we tagged our annual fundraiser to Equal Pay Day," explained Chelsea.
"An absolute highlight of our closing night party on September 6 were our hilarious MCs – Miss Malcolm and Mrs Dunn – in character as a suffragette and 1950s housewife. They carried us through the night on the theme of equal pay," Chelsea continued, adding that, "the final two minutes of the auction were incredibly exciting to watch on the big screen."
