Women from business supported to reach top
11 May 2018
Ruby has just finished a very focussed and busy week looking at women and the world economy. First up was the 2018 Global Summit of Women, parenthetically known by some as the Davos for women, and of which Westpac was a Platinum sponsor. This was followed by the Global Banking Alliance study tour hosted by Westpac. The latter dealt predominantly with how GBA member banks can meet the banking needs of women in their communities. The former event was concerned with creating economies of shared value for women worldwide.
Both events made you aware of the significance to the economy of women and how that continues to grow, everywhere.
If you’re a woman at the top of your game, we’d like to support you to reach the top of our business. That’s why the Westpac Group Equilibrium Program exists. This career-changing opportunity, now in its fourth year, can provide you with the training, skills and networks to support your rise to the top. It gives you the opportunities to take your career even further. Because the more successful women we create opportunities for, the better Australia will become. If you’re a woman with a successful career outside of finance ready to make a change, we’d like to speak with you.
Applications are now open and close on Friday 18 May.
The Equilibrium Program is our commitment to finding senior women to take the courageous step to change their career. We’re looking for women who can bring different perspectives, innovative thinking and digital problem solving to the Westpac Group. Most importantly, we want women who will challenge our way of thinking.
You don’t need to have worked in the finance industry. But you do need a track record in business, customer and stakeholder leadership as well as financial acumen and operational capabilities. It’s these skills, plus our promise to build your career with a program tailored to you, which will help us all go further and revolutionise the service industry.
For 12 months we’ll work with you to create a development plan that’s unique to your skills and ambitions to launch your career in finance. To start, you will be immersed in the Consumer or Business Banking team with an experienced financial services professional as your People Leader. This, alongside a tailored plan to develop your leadership potential, will arm you with the fundamental skills for a successful career in the banking and finance sector. Through key rotations, you will gain insight into our critical business areas, providing you with the platform you need to be a successful leader at Westpac. You will also be paired with a buddy and mentor to help guide your short and long term career objectives. Plus, you will have the opportunity to be involved in Westpac’s ‘Women in Leadership’ network to help build your internal networks and visibility within the organisation.
To make sure you continue to develop and build your finance career, both throughout the program and once you’ve secured a role, you will undertake a variety of technical and finance training as well as leadership development programs. You will also work on critical, project based work assignments within the program to gain maximum exposure to our business, people and service leadership as well as Westpac project management methodologies and approaches.
Most importantly, the program is small and selective. That way you will get individual attention and support with development, as well as the chance to work with senior management to ensure you’re set up for success when you complete the program.
To be eligible you’ll need:
Experience: A successful career outside of the financial services industry. We’re looking for women with backgrounds in medicine, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, legal, professional services, FMCG’s, telecommunications, digital, education, sales, retail, marketing and media industries. You will also need extracurricular achievements and strong communication skills.
Motivation to transition to a career in financial services: As well as this you’ll need to fit with Westpac’s culture – a culture that’s dedicated to helping our people, our customers and our communities grow. You will be a strong fit to the program itself and ready to make a bold step and career change.
Australian/NZ citizenship or Australian permanent residency.
You will also need experience in some or all of these areas:
Service leadership: A passion for growing with and deeply understanding our customers.
Business leadership: A demonstrated ability to run and transform a business by driving significant change. That could include business initiatives, being responsible for growth and development or the management of profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
Experience in Digital Transformation: A proven track record of innovative thinking that aligns technology with organisational strategy.
Financial & Commercial Acumen: The ability to apply a risk mind-set and commercial judgement to all decisions.
Operational & Functional Excellence: Proven leadership of a functional or operational transformation.
People Leadership: Experience changing ways of working to lead a diverse, high performance team.
Stakeholder Leadership: Experience managing significant relationships with diverse stakeholders.
