Chronic Fatigue

Have you been feeling fatigued for between 4-6 months or longer? And the feeling of fatigue may be persistent or relapsing? You may also experience 4 or more of the following symptoms for longer than 4-6 months:

-         Impaired short term memory or concentration

-         Sore throat, feverishness

-         Tender cervical or axillary lymph nodes

-         Muscle pain

-         Multi-joint pain without arthritis

-         Headaches of a new type, pattern or severity

-         Unrefreshed sleep, difficult falling/staying asleep

-         Night sweat

-         Weight changes

-         Bowel changes, irritable bowel

-         Increase sensitivity to chemicals, perfumes, petrol fumes, food allergens etc.

-         Nutritional deficiencies and imbalances

Biochemically, chronic fatigued patients have reduced cellular oxygen uptake and increased oxidant stress. There is also a major drop in cellular synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the most important energy carrier in cells. This would explain the symptoms experienced.

Treatment for chronic fatigue involves a combination of herbal formulae, acupuncture, stress management and nutrition supplement. The overall treatment focuses on strengthening the immune function by improving colon flora, digestion, reduction of oxidant stress, support the liver, support energy production and treat any viruses or bacteria present.
