Stop Sabotaging and Start Succeeding in Your Business!
07 March 2011
Sabotage occurs any time we want to achieve something and then our actions or lack of action prevents us from being, doing or having what we want in business. For example, you could be sabotaging your business if you:
hold back from pursuing your ideal clients and letting go of the others;
avoid or do insufficient self promotion, networking and making phone calls;
wish you could charge more for your products and services, yet keep your prices unchanged for fear of losing clients;
overreact to clients, staff and situations with anger, frustration, disappointment, etc and wish that you were more in control of your emotions;
struggle to attract more quality customers and make more money in your business.
In contrast, when we understand the psychology of business success, we can stop sabotage. Here are six ways to align your thinking with outstanding business success.
1. Clarity of Direction
Without clarity there can be confusion and lots of purposeless action. Not knowing what you really want in your business leads to scattered thinking, results in scattered action and scattered business results.
Instead, create a clear vision for your business (and where you want to be in 5 years, 10 years, etc) and then set short term and long term goals to help you get there. Remember to dream big because regardless of whether you focus on a small goal or a big one, you will get it! This will guide your actions towards creating what you really want, and will drive and motivate you in business, especially during challenging times.
2. Clear priorities
Without priorities, there can be overwhelm as everything takes on the same importance or urgency. By being clear about your values and what is important to you, this will help to align and prioritise your actions for maximum results.
Think about and make a note of what is really important to you in your business right now. Then as you look at the list of priorities, ask yourself whether you are currently taking action towards your priorities in your business. If not, you may need to adjust your action to reflect your priorities. Remember that we take action on the things that are most important to us.
3. Address your self doubts and limiting beliefs
If you believe that you cannot have or do not deserve to have what you really want, these beliefs will sabotage your business success. Similarly, if you lack belief in yourself and your ability to do well in business, this will impact on your confidence and your actions. This is because our beliefs are reflected in our behaviours. For example, if you have a fear of rejection, you may find yourself doing or saying things on the phone or in a meeting which has the other person respond with a \"no\", and so they reject you anyway. The fear creates a self-fulfilling prophesy. Once you resolve these beliefs, you will be freer to succeed at having the business success that you desire.
4. Resolve internal conflicts
Some of us even have internal conflicts which pull us in different directions eg. whether to pursue our passion and start a business or remain working for an employer, whether or not to increase our prices, etc. Once we resolve these, we become totally aligned with having what we want, we are more decisive, we stop wasting time and are more purposeful in our action.
5. Address your fears and other unresolved emotions
Any time you experience emotions which are out of proportion to the situation you are in or you find yourself thinking \"Why did I overreact?\", it is a sign that those emotions are unresolved. For example, road rage is a sign of unresolved anger, as is getting really angry when your customer asks you to do something which is part of your product or service offering anyway.
Unresolved emotions can result in undesired behaviours or lack of action (eg. unresolved fear can have us feeling stuck and, therefore, prevent us from taking action) towards our business goals. Those emotions are also trapped energy and holding onto them can drain us of the energy to do what we really desire.
6. Stop being a worrier
Because you get what you focus on, if you continue to focus on what you don't want, you will keep attracting it. It is a lot easier to focus on what you do want when the above five steps have been addressed. By visualising exactly what you want each day in your business, you program your mind to attract more positive people, situations and business opportunities into your life. Like attracts like. If you want to attract more positive customers, staff, suppliers, etc in your business, ensure that you are positive first!
Imagine how much more successful your business could be once your stop sabotaging yourself!
