11 Ways to Beat the Recession Blues

07 March 2011

1. THINK POSITIVE

Decide being down about the recession is only a state of mind and that does not mean it has to be your mind. When things were good economically were you ecstatic? Was everyone running around talking about how FANTASTIC it was and how LUCKY we all were? No.

So why worry when so many are sprouting doom and gloom? The recession might not even affect you (cheaper fuel and homeloans) and even if it does, staying positive will help you cope better. A fun exercise is to see, just for one day if you can not let anything negative come into your mind for 24 hours.

2. GO FOR A WALK

If you can't afford a gym or even if you can, most trainers would agree walking is always a great option to help clear your mind.

I have a secret; there is an even better reason to go for a walk every day for at least half an hour. A long time age when I was a model and met many gorgeous women, the one with by far the best legs ever wasn't a model, she was a busy fashion editor and mum with 2 kids. She told me anyone with average legs could get amazing legs if they walked everyday.(but had to be at least half an hour -up to even an hour). I did as she told me and became known for my legs afterwards! It worked. So many other girls asked me how I had these new amazing legs, well they all did too, once I told them the secret. You could try it too- it works!

3. MEDITATE

Learn to mediate

I once heard Wayne Dyer speak and the one thing that most stuck in my mind was when he said how he went to Deepak Choprah when he had problems. I found this hilarious as Wayne Dyer wrote a whole book and how to deal with every common life problem and its just funny thinking he goes to someone when he has problems when so many people go to his books for their problems - and all Deepak says to Wayne is meditate, meditate, meditate. And Wayne says to Deppak, I think one meditate would have been sufficient. The point of course being that if every answer is somehow in you then surely if you meditate, let your mind rest you'll work it out! Even if you don't at least you'll be in a relaxed place and able to look at the problem possibly form a different perspective.

4. DRESS UP

It does not cost anything, to take a shower, do your hair, dress up and go outside and meet up with your friends. Maybe you could all have a theme! All wear black or white or both. It does not have to cost anything extra. Make sure you have fun with this and get at least one compliment from a stranger. Years ago I went to June Dally Watkins, which actually was how I became a model at 16. Ms Dally would be so proud to think you are going to dress up!- this was something she always told me and it's true, dressing up does make you feel better.

5. KEEP TWO DIARIES

First Dairy- to re-read

Write down all the things you are happy and grateful about today. Write long lists of all your amazing attributes and keep this diary to re read

Second Dairy- do not re read

Have another diary so if you are feeling very emotional write it all down here. Also in this 2nd diary-write stream of consciousness- whatever comes into your head. Have fun with this, don't sensor yourself and hide it even form yourself so you don't re read it and judge yourself later.

6. CLOTHES SWAP

Get a group of friend together and clothes swap. This is especially fun if you are all similar sizes, if not cultivate some new friends! Have a dress up party at the end. Also you can sell old clothes on eBay that no one wants and buy new ones with the extra cash.

7. HAVE A PICNIC

Picnics can be very fun and inexpensive, just get fresh fruit, bread rolls and a cooked chicken. Grab a bunch of people and you too could have fun at the beach.

8. GO OUT TO FREE THINGS

Art gallery, events, fun runs, go go go, the more people you meet the greater chance something will change and you'll have fun in the process. When in doubt go out.

9 DRINK TAP WATER

Drinking lots of tap water in most places in Australia is not only cheap- but healthy! Not many people actually drink the minimum amount of 8 glasses of water per day.

10 EAT HEAPS OF FRESH FOOD_ AND A HEALTH CHECK.

Not only is fresh best - it's cheaper! ..and you could give up any expensive vices while you're at it. Just make it time for a health check.

When the market changes you might even miss how great you feel during your healthy time. Also amazing how simple eating and living are more fun sometimes than all the things you thought you wanted.

11 JUST REMEMBER RECESSIONS COME AND GO.

This too shall pass. Nothing lasts forever and now is as good a time as any to do all the free things you love to do, enjoy the time for what it is because the recession blues will go away and one day you might even miss them in an odd way.
