10 Steps to Success

03 December 2012

Firstly we must define what we consider to be success.  We all consider success in different ways - are we looking for money, recognition, fame or are we looking for a healthy lifestyle, happy relationships, a loving family life?  Once you have decided then here are ten simple steps to help you on your way:

1.  You are the only person responsible for your success.

The day you decide your life is your own, the best part of your life will begin!

2.  There is no need to invent the wheel.

You don't need to invent something completely new to be successful, you can find something that works and simply make it better or make it different.  Steve Jobs once said, "Good artists copy, great artists steal.  Creativity is connecting things."  Be creative and seek inspiration from great ideas that are already there.

3.  There is no progress without action.

What you don't start today, you won't finish tomorrow.

4.  Persistence is key.

Consider the wise words of Winston Churchill, "Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm."

5.  Focus is everything.

Focus on your goal 100% and you will be 100% efficient.

6.  Failure is a neccessity.

There are very few people who get anything right the first time.  What doesn't work out today gives you another opportunity to try it differently tomorrow.

7.  Be positive, be productive.

The happiest people use positive energy to make the best of what they have.  Happiness is an element of success.

8.  Believe you can.

Begin with the dream, believe in the dream, commit to the dream, take action with determination and make that action a part of your life.  Your dream can become a reality.

9.  Make your dream benefit others.

Your long term success is closely linked to how well you serve your community.

10.  Enjoy the baby steps that lead to your success.

Continually grow in little ways every day.  Always hold yourself at the highest standards and strive for continual improvement.  Wherever you are today, it's where you are going that matters.

Thank you for your comments Tessa, Anna and Larke - I am so glad that the article resonates with you! These are steps I constantly remind myself to take daily - I have recently launched a new sideline business that has been a dream of mine for so long - it seemed so daunting initially however by staying true to myself and taking the 'baby steps' required to get everything up and running. So far the first month of operation has been a success and I am following my 9 steps closely! As a coach and small business owner it's important that I practice what I preach every day! :-)

Must agree with Tessa, Jane, good article and nice to re-focus by stepping back and considering those baby steps along the way do require persistence and determination, it doesn't happen overnight, but the rewards are equivalent to your perseverance. Have a Great Day, All :-)

Great read Jane, thank you. Some really good reminders that I often forget day to day as I get lost in my routine and frustrated at the snail pace I seem to be moving at.
