Reading For Good

11 April 2017

Reading for Good is Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand's female focused book club designed to celebrate female writers locally and from around the world.

Would you like to read books about women’s strength and resilience, and stories of struggle and heartbreak? Learn about women throughout history and the hopes women have for the future?

Join Reading for Good and help Good Shepherd create a better future for women and girls. Funds raised will help Good Shepherd to provide our community services and programs for women and children, such as support for young mothers, newly arrived women to Australia and those experiencing family violence.

Thanks to the support of Dymocks members will receive a discount code for 20% off the RRP when they purchase any books from the reading list online at

To become a member of Reading for Good, establish your online fundraising page and pledge the number of books you plan to read this year.

How it works

Register online at Everyday Hero and click "join team". Follow the prompts to create your fundraising page. When you establish your page, you can add details to the "My Story"  section to include how many books from the list you pledge to read in 2017. Will it be 6, 9, 12 or 15?

Include your motivations, passions and why you’ve signed up too. This is a page you can share on Facebook, via email and more.

Registrations are open to anyone in Australia. We have a designated forum to facilitate discussions between readers no matter where they are.

Once you've registered, you'll be invited to join a designated forum to discuss books online with other readers.

Each quarter there will be a feature book; this is the book that we will all read together. You can read any of the other books on the reading list, in any order, to work up to your goal of 6, 9, 12 or 15 books.

At the end of each quarter there will be a special event held in Melbourne for dedicated fundraisers who hit big milestones. These events will offer a chance to hear from and talk to some of the authors on our reading list. Dates and details for these events will be confirmed when you sign up. You'll receive plenty of support to help you reach the targets to get you there!

People who fundraise and are able to attend will be rewarded with exclusive interviews, readings and Q&A opportunities with authors featured on our reading list. Guests at these events will include Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Sohila Zanjani, Leena Van Deventer, Angela Savage and Sofie Laguna.

For those who aren’t able to attend the Melbourne events, there will be plenty of other rewards for your fundraising efforts, with some great prizes up for grabs.

Everyone who sets up a page will receive regular emails with event updates, fundraising ideas, prize details, competitions and opportunities to meet other book lovers. So what are you waiting for?

Register now to receive your reading list, discussion notes, fundraising ideas that put the FUN in fundraising, and your log-in to join the online forum.
