Elaine Bensted is Chief Executive of Zoos South Australia. She took the reins in September 2012 during a difficult time for the Zoo as it grappled with debt. Whilst this debt was significantly reduced with the support of the State Government and major sponsor, Westpac, it was clear that the business needed new direction. Whilst Elaine admitted she didn’t know a great deal about animals when she started, there was no doubt that her understanding of finances and people made her an ideal candidate for the role. She also saw the position as an exciting opportunity to develop an iconic South Australian institution. A well-respected and recognised member of the South Australian business community, Elaine has a strong track record of leadership and service delivery in senior roles. She is the previous Chief Executive at TAFE SA and prior to that she held senior roles in both State and Local Government. She boasts extensive experience in the private finance sector – including human resource and training management, operation and project management and running a branch of a bank. Her qualifications include an MBA and Masters in Public Policy and Management. Elaine will share her leadership journey, her challenges and experiences at AIM’s upcoming WIM breakfast. Channel Nine Newsreader and personality, Kate Collins will MC the breakfast. Be sure to book your seat early, tickets will sell fast!
