My name is Amina Mendez. I am from the province of Nueva Ecija in the Philippines. I was in my second year of high school when my mother Remy received a small loan to help us leave poverty behind.
I'd like to invite you to come and hear my story about how this small loan started a ripple of transformation that spread throughout my family and community.
When I was young, having food on the table was a daily struggle for my parents. There were days when there was nothing for dinner. With the loan of Php.5000 (A$123), my mother was able to buy three pigs to start a piggery. The income she earned meant that my parents were able to pay for me to finish school. After high school, I was
awarded a scholarship to study at university and eventually graduated in 2012 at the Ohio Wesleyan University in the United States.
I now work in microfinance, helping provide small loans to other families in need. Every day I get to see the impact your giving can have.
I hope you can join me for lunch in March when I am in Australia for International Women's Day.
